Government Program Seeks to Tag Every Livestock Animal in the United States
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is embarking upon a new program that seeks to have every single livestock animal in the United States identified, tagged and possibly implanted with a radio chip. The highly controversial National Animal Identification System (NAIS) would require anyone who owns even one livestock animal – such as a pigeon, rabbit, chicken or horse – to register that animal and its location in a federal database.

There are good and valid reasons to do a program like this-BUT- and this is a big but- I see this as just one more way the government can control you and know your where abouts.It is a basic invasion of privacy. That means that the official from the government can come on your land any time they feel like. Who's business is it how many animals a person keeps? This is just an added level of government that must be paid for some how. I would have some serious questions like how secure is the database going to be? Can anyone get this information? It makes sense to tag animals going to market and that is where it should stop. I am so glad I live in Canada.
